René Minneboo is a classically trained bass baritone but his passion for music is not limited to classical works like arias, lieder, choral masterworks, Russian liturgical and folk repertoire and romances by Rachmaninov. Blessed with a large vocal range he also loves to sing jazz, standards from The Great American Songbook, as well as pop and show tunes by the likes of John Denver, Josh Groban and Paul Robeson.
René recently sang the Bass Solo of the Mozart Requiem with University Of California Alumni Chorus and orchestra, the bass solo in the spiritual “Deep River” and the tenor solo in MLK written by U2 on tour in Norway and South Africa as well as the tenor solo in the spiritual “Ain’t Got Time To Die” featured in the play “Church” for several performances in San Francisco.
He anchors the bass section in the Slavyanka Russian Chorus and has performed as soloist locally and on tour in Russia.
René was born and raised in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, where he learned English, German, French and Dutch. His greatest influences in the classical realm in the are the late great Russian baritone Dimitri Hvorostovsky and Dietrich Fisher-Dieskau.
